The starter is a mini starter and the instructions state the bendix should only mesh 1/2 onto the ring gear, which it does. I'm using the correct knurled starter bolts. WebNov 12, 2004 · No shims at all. The gear is engaging only a 1/16 of and inch or so on the top of the ring gear tooth. Works ok for a little while and then starts slipping. I wonder if milling some off the starter housing would allow it to set closer to the ring gear?
